21.st Tactical Air Force Base Čáslav

Date: 15 March 2023
Subject:  Open Day of Čáslav Air Force Base in 2023

After four years, the Open Day of the 21st Tactical Air Force Base Čáslav will be held again. This traditional event, which did not take place in 2021 due to the COVID-19 counter-measures, is aimed at presenting not only the Čáslav base, but also to present other participating units of the Czech Armed forces. Dynamic demonstrations of primarily military machinery are going to be an unforgettable part of the event, therefore we can consider the happening as a small air show. The side events will run throughout the whole day.
This year's Open Day will take place on 20 May 2023. "For this year's volume we will again cooperate with the Jagello 2000 association, a proven and experienced partner," says the commander of the 21st Tactical Air Force Base Čáslav, Colonel Jaroslav Tomaňa.
"We are glad that after four years we can work together again on this event. We look forward to welcoming visitors and we firmly believe that they will be satisfied with the programme prepared for them," says Zbyněk Pavlačík, Chairman of Jagello 2000. The agreement on the joint organisation of the Open Day between 21st Air Force Base and Jagello 2000 was signed at the end of February 2023.
During the last Open Day, which took place in 2019, the event was visited by more than 50,000 fans, interestingly, those were not only aviation enthusiasts. "The Open Day will be designed to keep families with children entertained throughout the day again this year," explains Lieutenant Colonel Tomas Baranec, the Event Director for the 21st Air Force Base. A children's corner is planned, where various attractions, games and competitions will be prepared for the little ones.  The static display will include a presentation of the equipment of the ground and air forces of the Army of the Czech Republic.
An important fact is that the entrance will be free of charge. "As in previous years, a free shuttle train service from Čáslav to the air base will be provided in cooperation with the town of Čáslav," added Zbyněk Pavlačík, chairman of Jagello 2000.  This year, visitors will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the unit‘s name, the 21st Tactical Air Force Base.
In addition to an extensive programme of ground demonstrations and presentations of all squadrons of the 21st Air Force Base, visitors can also enjoy flight display. For spectators will be prepared the performance of the complete Air Force display teams - JAS-39 Gripen supersonic jet, a pair of L-159 ALCA light attack aircraft, W-3A Sokol helicopters, Mi-24 along with Mi-171. The static demonstration on the ground will be complemented by, among others, a Belgium F-16 supersonic jet. In addition to the military jets, the program will also include aircraft that were in service at our base in the past. The programme will also include demonstrations from civil aviation, you can look forward to the performance of aerobatic pilot Martin Šonka.
